haven’t finished the video, just got to the part of mr ballen first mentioning shane by name and showing a picture and my heart broke a bit because mike couldnt help but physically react at seeing his friend. hes probably seen that pic a million times, heard shane’s name a million times & heard this story & relived it a million times but that hurt never goes away. i hope mike can find peace 💗

Yea, the first thing that came to mind is why the bodies are still there?

While you may not be able to become immune to narcosis you can certainly built up a tolerance & different people have different tolerances. Much like I’ve met people who can be drunk on 2 pints & it takes me about 10 pints it’s the ability for your body to handle the narcosis & still be able to function. I’ve been narked & knew I was narked but I was able to recognise it & acknowledge it was happening. I honestly believe if you’re good at handling other narcotics such as alcohol you can handle nitrogen narcosis better. Obviously you have to be used to being at that depth & be comfortable there & trained enough not for panic or worry to bring on narcosis. Also the British diving club BSAC train divers to dive up to 50m on air & it’s done thousands of times every weekend. We also do “pyle stops” which basically get you to stop for a minute at half your depth on the way up. So you will do stops at day 50m, 30m, 20m etc etc butting generally for a minute. Ideally you stop as one of your compartments peaks so you can let it drop.

This mindset is called young person. Dont forget the reasoning portion of the brain hasn't finished forming until people are in their mid to late 20's. Teenagers (especially boys) are actually incapable of reasoning out consequences in the same way an adult can. I see this constantly in my line of work.

on 11 December 1978 myself and 3 buddies went down to 217 feet ( just over 66m ) at Traux Biches, Mauritius on normal air. We had to stop as one diver started narcing badly and besides we were all suffering from Oxygen poisoning. We were all very experienced, the dive was planned for 220 feet, but abandoned for safety. Looking back now i think we were crazy, but when you are young you are indestructible :-)

You guys are amazing, you really are. I stumbled across your videos a few weeks ago, and since then, I saw almost half of it and can't stop watching ! Wow! You got me totally! I'm 51 and have ADHD and its hard that something holds my attention for so long but you guys succeed in doing that. Your guests are amazing and incredible human beings and extraordinary interesting! I myself a Dog-behavior-specialist and a rehabilitate very aggressive dog's as well as all other extremely powerful and nearly impossible to solve cases. So in a sense we at the same levels of intensity in regards to what we do and love for sure! I learned a lot of you and will continue to do so. A lot helped me in my dangerous and complicated work as well i must admit. Especially your safety protocols and so on. Maybe sometime in the future i would be so lucky to meet and talk to you both. For sure i would be honored. I would appreciate it very much. So im looking forward in hope poseidon is hearing my wish. It would mean a lot to the doglover community to have a interview with you both. Anyways you thru your channel and work inspired me a absolutely newbie in diving especially caves. Maybe someday I'm so lucky too and can try it as well. Until then i keep watching your videos your guests and you are special humans. The world needs more like you. Thank you very much. I’m no expert but body retrieval will be a very dangerous job in this cave. The amount of silt that will get kicked up just trying to free the stuck tank will probably reduce visibility considerably and then you have to go back out plus’s a dead body. Very hard and very dangerous. Not many people willing to take that job on. Would be my guess.

Panic sets in when you get stuck in a small space... because of that you lose oxygen faster...and then it's GG.

OMG, the anxiety I'm feeling! The horror of being stuck like that first diver knowing your air is going to run out and you're going to die must have been terrifying. I once got something stuck in my regulator as a very new diver and it started leaking water in. That was scary enough and I almost didn't continue, but I really wanted to see the sealife so I continued. Glad I did because it was well worth it, although I didn't dive much after that. Mostly because it was expensive having to hire all the gear.
